The story of Croakies began in 1977 when a local ski patrolman from Jackson Hole Mountain Resort in Wyoming had an idea for an eyewear retainer that could grip his shades through all kinds of alpine adventures. Using an old wetsuit, some sharp scissors, and good old American ingenuity, he crafted the first pair of eyewear retainers. This ingenious device, inspired by the design of a Chinese finger trap, quickly became a hit with the patrollers.
The nickname "croakies" was initially used by the Jackson Hole ski patrol when they couldn't think of a word to describe the new invention. The name finally stuck on the first neoprene eyewear retainer ever created.
Today, Croakies continues to call the mountains home, with a robust manufacturing facility in Bozeman, Montana.
